Timely access to OT data can help with production planning, resource management, safety monitoring, AI, and fault prediction. However, there are three challenges to consider when accessing OT data from IT.
1. The data must be available. You need to provide the data to any user who needs it, when it is needed, in a form they can use.
2. The connection must be secure. Security means restricting availability to only authorized users. However, the more secure the data is, the less available it becomes, and vice-versa.
3. The data must be reliable. You need to preserve the data and make it available, even in the event of a hardware, software, or network failure.
Meeting these challenges means using the right combination of data protocols, connecting securely over a DMZ, and configuring redundant connections that support store and forwarding technologies. Watch this video to find out more.
