6th Lightweighting Summit Focuses on "Lightweight Cconstruction as a Locomotive for Innovation and Competitiveness"

The 6th Lightweighting Summit under the patronage of Germany’s Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK) will be held on April 1, 2025, as part of HANNOVER MESSE. It will offer companies, scientists, and experts from all sectors the opportunity to find out about the latest developments in lightweight construction, as well as discussing future-oriented technologies.

    Dr Robert Habeck, Vice-Chancellor and Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection, will open the event with a speech on the importance of lightweight construction and sustainable technologies for both the German economy and climate protection. This will be followed by a keynote speech by Tim-Oliver Müller, Director General of the Federation of the German Construction Industry, who will provide an exciting insight into the challenges and opportunities of lightweight construction in the construction industry.

    The introductions will be followed by a presentation of outstanding projects from the Lightweight Construction Technology Transfer Programme (TTP LB). These include MobiXL - a bionic design and manufacturing solution for vehicle structures, RTTS - development of a resource-efficient tunnel support system, and protECOlight - sustainable lightweight construction as a contribution to electric mobility. 

    In his keynote speech, Daniel Böttger (Senior Vice President, Total Vehicle Management, BMW Group) will talk about the role of lightweight construction in the automotive industry.

    The subsequent panel discussion will focus on the title of the event. Experts from various sectors will be on hand to discuss the future of lightweight construction as a driver of innovation and competitiveness in industry and society.

    Deputy Minister Maike Frese of the Free Hanseatic City of Bremen’s Ministry of Economy, Ports and Transition, will give the closing address.

    The event will be rounded off with a networking get-together, which will offer attendees an opportunity to connect and to exchange ideas and experiences.

    Delegations from South Korea, Canada, Sweden and IG Metall have announced that they will attend. The event will be moderated by the Editors-in-Chief of two online industry forums, namely Christine Koblmiller of Leichtbauwelt – the trade website for the lightweight industry – and Claus-Peter Köth of Automobil Industrie, its counterpart for the automotive industry.
