Traditional I/O solutions need to be implemented in strict sequence. With each step dependent on the last, any delays can lead to extra costs and the risk of the project being late.
This issue is solved with ABB’s System 800xA Select I/O and the innovative xStream Engineering tools. By making automation tasks independent of each other, the solution allows two teams to work in parallel, reducing commissioning time.
To do this, xStream Engineering takes a digital approach. ABB’s System 800xA controllers have access to all of the Select I/O clusters via the Industrial Ethernet I/O network. This allows the I/O to be marshalled digitally, instead of physically, with “signals” used to connect the applications in the controllers to the physical I/O in the field.
xStream Engineering offers several benefits, including a 90 percent reduction in commissioning man-hours when using the Ethernet I/O Field Kit that allows automated loop checks performed simultaneously on multiple smart devices. Project tasks can be performed in parallel which also minimizes the impact of late changes and risks.
