Available for factory automation applications, DataMan 500 from Cognex is powered by a proprietary vision chip, called Cognex VSoC. VSoC enables the fixed-mount barcode reader to have unmatched barcode reading performance and an ease-of-use not found in other image-based or laser systems available today. The reader offers 1DMax and 2DMax code reading technology for high read rates on even the most difficult 1-D barcodes and 2-D matrix codes. VSoC technology enables speeds on 1-D barcode reading with up to 90 decodes per second and image acquisition with auto-exposure, at up to 1,000 fps. The reader comes with trigger-free reading and ultrahigh frame rates. These features reduce overall setup cost and deployment time. To achieve greater depth of field than other image-based barcode readers, the device provides flexible lens options and field interchangeable lighting. Lens options include a choice of C-mount or variable focus liquid lens and lighting options include integrated LED lighting and a high-powered illumination accessory for high-performance reading. The reader also supports Cognex Connect communication capabilities, which includes EtherNet/IP and PROFINET. It can be accessed from any terminal connected to the network, which means that no host PC is required to translate data to a PLC or central network. The protocols also allow for data files and images to be archived directly through FTP support for later review and analysis. The reader is available in two models: DataMan 500 QL for high-speed, 1-D applications and DataMan 500 X, which additionally includes 2DMax to read the most challenging matrix codes.
