Packing 170 W of power in a 40 mm diameter by 80 mm long, palm-sized housing, the brushless DC motor EC 40 from maxon motor features a neodymium permanent magnet, stainless steel housing and welded flanges. It has flat speed/torque gradient of about 3.6 rpm/mNm, 2.1 ms mechanical time constant, 18,000 rpm permissible speed, and 89% efficiency. The ironless winding offers extra quiet running and high stall torque. The motor can be combined with a multitude of components such as encoders and gears as well as the recently introduced AB 32 permanent magnet brake. The latter is designed for operating temperatures of -40 to +100°C. A wide range of compatible controllers, from 1-quadrant and 4-quadrant servo amplifiers to programmable positioning controllers are also available. The motor is a good choice in industrial applications, logistics equipment, mobile robotics, packaging machinery and power tools or aerospace.
