Three safe and simple to apply coating options for iron and steel components from Birchwood Casey provide corrosion protection while improving component appearance. The patented TRU TEMP process operates at 93°C and produces a high quality black finish, in 30 minutes, without the hazards and high costs of ordinary high temp black oxide. An in-house process line uses no EPA regulated chemicals and can be safely installed in any plant. The process produces a durable, satin black magnetite coating, 0.5 µm thick, with no effect on material hardness or tensile strength. RoHS and MilSpec compliant, the finish withstands up to 100-200 h of neutral salt spray or several hundred hours of humidity. The process blackens all types of tooling and machine components and operates at low cost. Using mild, fume-free solutions, the RoHS and AMS 2484 compliant PRESTO BLACK process operates without heat, and is ultra-easy and safe to work with. When configured with an ion exchange system to recycle the rinse waters, it operates as a completely self-contained, zero-discharge process line. A silver-black RoHS compliant non-toxic aluminum oxide conversion coating, the MICROLOK AO finish utilizes no EPA regulated content, and process rinse waters are sewerable as non-hazardous discharge. It provides robust corrosion protection, break-in lubricity and galling resistance.
