Thanks to a special magnetic measurement principle from Siko , low-cost gears can be used as position sensors. Other standards that also have a tooth structure, such as cograils, can also be deployed using this new technology. Major advantages of the measurement system include its low price, the high temperature range possible (up to 125 deg. C), non-contact sensing and possible use in future in heavy-duty applications. The sensors in these compact new measurement systems record the movement of the gear teeth. They can therefore deduce changes of position, angles and RPMs. The highly-integrated incremental measurement principle also allows high resolution and repeat accuracy.
