The gearless variable speed YZ Direct Drive wind turbines by Shandong Swiss Electric (SSE) stand for high efficiency. The reduced number of components and rotating parts enables long operating times combined with low maintenance effort. The permanent magnet-based drive generators are currently available with rated outputs up to 3.0 MW and have overcome the typical problems of gear-driven turbines. The turbines work very efficiently even in low-wind regions because the technology adjusts itself to the wind conditions on a computerized basis, and the satellite-based control system ensures permanent efficient operation even in off-shore wind parks, on islands or in the desert.
