Injuries within workplace environments can occur when personnel are lifting or moving inappropriately heavy loads. The use of mechanical lifting equipment helps, but can also be time consuming, particularly where rope or chain wheel manual operations are associated with raising loads to above head height. Air powered lifting has been proved to be safe, effective, economical and time saving, particularly where there is an existing compressed-air power source available.
The J D Neuhaus company have a world renowned reputation for the supply of high performance air operated handling equipment, to operate in the toughest environments for individual loads up to 100 tonnes. However, they are also able to supply air hoists designed for operating in light to medium engineering and general workshop applications. These products ensure workshop health and safety compliance for load capacities up to 2 tonnes, with hoists that have been manufactured to the same high standards as their heavier duty equipment.
Two ranges of these general lower duty hoists are available, including the JDN Mini series with models available for payload ratings of 125, 250, 500 and 980kg. These are aluminium bodied units which provide optional lift heights of 3, 5 and 8 metres with a 6 bar air supply. These hoists are also equipped with a single top suspension hook, which can be used with an optional trolley mounting providing overhead rail suspension to accommodate manual powered traverse movements of suspended loads. A manipulator unit is also available in this versatile Mini range, which provides both safe and efficient single handed operation of lift, lower, traverse and load positioning operations.
Where more rugged, steel-bodied hoists are required, the JDN Profi TI series incorporates four models in a lower-load range rated at 250, 500 and 1000kg plus a 2 tonne lift capacity unit. These models also provide single suspension hook mounting with three optional trolley mounts available to provide manual, reel chain on motorised traverse movements. These products are supplied as standard with 3 metre lift heights, operating from optional 4 or 6 bar air supplies.
Where single hook suspension mounting is utilised for any of the JDN hoists, then both oblique or horizontal pulling facilities can be utilised.
All of these JDN products incorporate high performance grease providing permanent lubrication for the patented vane motor design and planetary gearbox which ensures fail-safe starting with low maintenance and lube-free operation. This is complemented with a patented wear-resistant motor braking system for 100% duty rating and the elimination of downtime. The pendant control units supplied with these hoists provide sensitive, infinitely variable speed control for the precise positioning of loads. Filtered or piped air exhaust systems can be supplied, together with appropriate alternative grease lubricant for hoist operations within food-grade related areas. The low-headroom hoist designs combine strength with fast, silent and reliable operation, even for operation within hazardous environments including dusty, dirty or even potentially explosive atmospheres, and at temperatures from -20°C to +70°C. They are also manufactured to comply with ATEX ratings of Ex II 3 GD IIA T4 for the Mini hoist series and Ex II 2 GD IIA T4 / II 3 GD IIB T4 for the Profi TI range. Spark resistant upgrades are also available for the Profi TI range to achieve ratings of Ex II 2 GD IIB T4 or Ex II 2 GD IIC T4 for explosion group IIC.
