As liquid cooled converters can be built significantly smaller than air cooled models, they are becoming more popular in power electronics in the higher kW or MW range. For receiving maximum benefit from liquid cooling, the immediate peripheral devices, such as input and output filters, need also be equipped with water cooling connections. Offering custom liquid cooled dv/dt filters, Schaffner has introduced devices that can be tailored for applications up to ≤1600A and ≤690VAC. Their open panel design is optimized for cabinet integration without the need for an expensive filter enclosure. Wind turbines, central inverters, or motor drives equally benefit from the company’s filter technology. Dv/dt filters protect motors from premature aging or destruction by the PWM signals, increase motor service life and therefore contribute to overall system reliability. The water cooled versions, in addition, allow for lower losses and more compact designs, supporting a higher power density. On special request other types of liquid cooled custom filters can be made available.
