Schaeffler expands its product portfolio in the “Heavy Duty” sector and is now paving the way for the electrification of commercial vehicles with fuel cells, a modular system, the Space Drive drive-by-wire system, and digital solutions. Through the E-Drive, a modular system for electric drive systems, customer requirements regarding cost efficiency, conflict of objectives, design space and power scaling can be solved. It includes an electric motor, software and power electronics, which enables customer-specific system solutions for commercial vehicles. Applications for the E-Drive comprise both light and heavy-duty vehicles.
Space Drive technology: a basis for level 4 & 5 autonomous driving
The Space Drive is a drive-by-wire technology that comprises a steer-by-wire functionality which enables safe vehicle steering through electronic control signals. It has a triple-redundant design and is compliant with ISO 26262 ASIL D functional safety standard. This system has the particularity to be both licensed worldwide for on-road use and has technical and commercial viability in high volume vehicle production. Thanks to its proprietary customizable software, it can also be used for autonomous and semi-autonomous driving of trucks (platooning).
