Belden has extended its Hirschmann product series to include a new PoE/PoE Plus module for Workgroup switches in the MACH100 range. This module, which possesses eight Fast Ethernet ports (10/100 BASE-TX), provides each attached terminal with either 15.4 W (PoE) or 30 W (PoE Plus). The power supply 48 V DC (for PoE) or 52 V DC (for PoE Plus) comes from an external power supply unit. For each MACH100 switch two modules can be used with a total of 16 ports. With PoE Plus, each module can use four ports. It is also possible to operate PoE and PoE Plus ports simultaneously up to a total power of 120 W. PoE Plus can also be used to power relatively high-rated terminal equipment such as IP cameras with pan-tilt-zoom, Voice over IP videophones or multiband WLAN access points. Protected against electrostatic discharges, magnetic fields and interference, the modules, are plug-and-play and hot-swappable. Network management software and web interface facilitate configuration and diagnostics. The current status values of the network connections are indicated by means of LEDs on the front of the unit. The PoE/PoE Plus power supply is generated in a three pin terminal block and conveyed via pairs 1/2 and 3/6 (phantom power). The modular Fast Ethernet switches of the MACH100 series, which also support the protocols Profinet and EtherNet/IP, can be used to network workgroups via copper or fiberoptic cables and connect them to the backbone via two Gigabit combo ports. The switches, designed to operate in the temperature range 0 to +50°C, also offer extensive management and redundancy procedures and a variety of functions for configuration and diagnostics. They also possess a fanless cooling system and a redundant power supply.
