Achieving an energy efficiency of 81% at 48 VAC input voltage and a rated load of 0.5 A/24 VDC, the Step Power power supplies from Phoenix Contact are available in a housing that is 18 mm wide. They operate flexibly with input voltages extending from 43 up to 52 V AC or 60 up to 80 V DC. The power loss under no-load conditions is less than 0.3 W. As very little electrical energy is converted into undesirable thermal energy, the service life of the power supply components is extended. Operating temperature range is –25 to 70 °C. The power supply operates according to the VI characteristic. This means that it does not shut down in the event of a short circuit or an overload, but continually supplies the maximum short-circuit current of 1 A. In this way, capacitive loads as well as devices with DC/DC transformers in the input circuit are reliably supplied with power. The power supply is snapped onto a mounting rail or screwed to any flat surface without requiring any additional accessories. Presently, this series includes 16 power supplies. The 18, 36, 54, 72, and 90 mm modules supply output currents from 0.5 to 6.5 A and output voltages from 5 to 48 V DC.
