E.ON launched a pilot project in its distribution substations in Hungary and switched from lead-acid to nickel-based batteries, supplied by Saft. Roland Knobloch, Saft’s Sales Manager for Central Europe, states, “By installing the latest Saft Uptimax nickel batteries, E.ON will benefit from long-term reliability, maintenance-free operation and rapid return to service.”

Improved performance

Uptimax, the latest generation of Saft nickel batteries, now have an improved performance. They have a longer operational life and, unlike lead-acid batteries, are highly reliable as they do not encounter sudden death and do not require maintenance. Moreover, the Uptimax can fully charge at a single voltage level, which means that E.ON will not need to replace its battery charger to utilize Saft batteries.
