The Mill 4-12KT by Kennametal is the next generation of tangential shoulder milling featuring triangular-shaped margin design. This feature provides cutting edges with notable strength. The Mill 4-12KT produce quality floor surface finishes for nearly all steel and cast iron applications. It uses 15% lower cutting forces, with today lighter duty 40-taper machine tools. Making a faster feed without putting aditional stress on the spindle, in overhang situations or when part fixturing is less than optimal the lower force gives a less chatter, reduce edge chipping and smoother surface finishes. It also have a tangentially mounted inserts with four cutting edges per insert. Seven corner radii from 0.016" (0.4 mm) to 0.122" (3.1 mm) are available, along with coolant-through, medium and coarse pitch cutter bodies 2" (50mm) to 8" (200mm) in diameter and an axial depth of cut range from 0.019" to 0.472" (0.5 to 12mm).

Including the existing Mill 4-11 and Mill 4-15 to generate shoulder quality wall surface finishes

In addition, the tangential ‘on-edge’ insert design gives an advantage of the strength of the carbide thickness. It includes a shallow pocket design to provide the core size of a cutter body to be robust and the axial and radial seating surface designs give stability. It is mounted with tangentially inserts with four cutting edges per insert. Also designed with a triangular-shaped margin to give cutting edges with strength and cutter bodies available in medium and coarse pitch.
