Varvel presents the bevel/helical series RO2 to have a wider range of the current already appreciated gearbox RO and RV. Varvel is looking at those applications that require ratios up to 50/1 suitable for a direct supply to OEMs. Therefore, a new bevel/helical gearbox line RO2 has been designed with the aid of state-of-the-art gear calculation, modelling, and housing stress and deformation checking.

The RO2 reduction ratios are made by two gear sets: bevel at the input and helical at the output. In order to increase the transmission efficiency, Varvel wishes to satisfy the request for lower torques with bevel/helical reducers instead of worm gearboxes.

This new series is made by four sizes:

  • RO02 - torque 120 Nm - hollow output shaft max 25 mm
  • RO12 - torque 200 Nm - hollow output shaft max 30 mm
  • RO22 - torque 330 Nm - hollow output shaft max 35 mm
  • RO32 - torque 550 Nm - hollow output shaft max 40 mm

Technical performances are about 20% higher than the competitors. Twenty ratios from 5.2/1 to 51.5/1. One-piece housing and additional fixing holes have granted an increased torsional rigidity to most of customers' fittings.
