Parker Hannifin has won new business which demonstrates the benefits of using the company’s AC30 variable speed drives to minimize losses, reduce energy costs and enhance control. The unusual application for seafood company Selsea Fish & Lobster centers on keeping lobsters and crabs fresh by pumping seawater over them. AC30V drives allow the matching of the speed of pumps and fans to process demands ensuring that the motor always operates at the optimal speed to deliver just the right amount of air or fluid.

This can result in significant energy savings – often as much as 50 percent, with just a 20 percent reduction in speed. On Selsea’s previous system, the drives for the pumps were operating direct on line and at full-speed all the time regardless of application needs meaning the plant was consuming excessive amounts of electricity and creating unnecessary CO2 emissions. AC30V Variable speed drives also help improve service life by operating at an appropriate speed.
