The 2016 Autosport International could see the discovery of the next Lewis Hamilton, thanks to a competition run in conjunction with Formula Kart Stars.
One young driver could get their big break and win entry and tyres, fuel and the use of a kart for the renowned junior karting series, which is backed by Formula 1 Management.
The series counts the likes of triple Formula 1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton and other famous drivers such as current and former F1 drivers Will Stevens, Max Chilton and Paul Di Resta among its graduates.
The winner will get the chance to kick-start their motorsport career in the Formula Kart Stars Cadet class in the 2016 season with the kart, tyres and fuel all included in the prize. The competition is open to boys and girls aged between eight and 10 on the first race weekend of the season, on 8 April 2016.
Entrants are asked to send a 200-word story on why they want to be a Formula 1 driver to competition@formulakartstars.com by 4 January 2016.
From those entries, a shortlist of 20 will be invited to come to Autosport International on Saturday 16 January 2016. They will take part in a practical test on the purpose-built indoor track, with Teesside Karts choosing five finalists.
These five will then face an interview with a panel of recognisable experts from the motorsport industry. Last year's panel featured the likes of Anthony Hamilton, former F1 driver Mark Blundell, while the 2015 British Cadet Champion Joseph Taylor will certainly be on the panel.
The winner of the 2015 prize was Olivier Algerie, who had a very successful season against the best drivers in the UK. He finished fifth overall in the championship, achieving a podium at the challenging Nutts Corner circuit in Northern Ireland.
Carolynn Hoy, Managing Director of Formula Kart Stars, said: "Olivier had a fantastic season, especially considering he had done hardly any racing at all before he started. By the end of the season he was mixing with the front-runners, and really made a huge improvement throughout the year. He is very talented and has got potential."
